Getting Started With Your Website
If you don’t already have a hosting account, we’ll get you one.
Bluehost is my preferred hosting company, sign up here for a hosting account. While Bluehost is my preferred hosting company, I can work with pretty much any host if the servers support WordPress. If you have an existing hosting account, check with customer support to see if they support WordPress. Specifically the host will need:
- PHP version 4.3 or greater
- MySQL version 4.0 or greater
2.) Pick out your theme
The next step is to pick out your WordPress theme. You’ll be looking for the basic look or the ‘skin’ for your site. While looking at the themes you want to try to think ahead and visualize what your site will look like. It is important to keep in mind that every theme is different, many aspects of many themes are editable or have many different features for color, layout, look, etc.
You can look at some of my favorite themes on my Theme Switcher site.
Another place you can look is here: WordPress.org website is a good place to start looking at themes. You’ll want to search by keywords such as; “white,” “simple,” “clean,” etc. or you can use the tag search feature and narrow down themes.
If you get stuck with any of this, please let me know and I will help to narrow the list down for you.
